1948 CROSLEY "VADER" MODEL 68TA Summary
1948 Crosley tube radio, "Vader" Model 68TA. Ever since the first time I restored this model Crosley over 20 years ago, the front grille reminded me of Darth Vaders helmet from Star Wars, and so from then on I've always referred to it as the Vader,
One issue with these sets is the large dial lens warping over time because the plastic was not only curved, but very thin so finding one with a perfect lens is next to impossible. That being said, this one was warped and badly damaged so I decided to make a thick custom lens with a Vader Star Wars theme. From concept, to design, to bringing it to life took several months.
As with all of my tube radios on my site, it's been fully restored which you can view the details on the photo shoot. This radio is a one of a kind set and considering the time and work it took to fabricate the custom Vader lens, I won't be doing another... that's for sure! May the FORCE be with you!!
